The longevity and performance of Timken oil and gas products are largely based on our strengths in research and advanced technology. In Timken laboratories, engineers test enabling technologies related to advanced steel materials, bearing raceway surface conditioning and manufacturing to determine how these enhancements affect oil and gas drilling performance.

Our technology advancements help us make application-specific recommendations to improve customer performance. For example, the development of proprietary steels and engineered surfaces has led to the Timken DuraSpexx Power Rating Series – bearings that provide up to 23 percent higher API load ratings for top drive main bearings. Beyond bearings, Timken steel is also used in drill bits, drill collars, heavy wall drill pipes, mud motors, tool joints and Christmas trees/wellheads.
